"This is Thames from London ..."
| For 25 glorious years words like this announced Thames Television - the clarion call of independent television in the capital during the weekdays. |
Latest updates 22-10-2009
Our continuity and Thames News sections have been updated, the latter with new captures of several sets of opening titles. |
As well as producing some of ITV's most popular and highest quality programmes, Thames had an extremely strong local identity. Sadly, the company ceased broadcasting at midnight on 31 January 1992 after losing its franchise to broadcast to Carlton Television in a controversial 'auction' of television franchises the year before.
Thames was consigned to the role of an independent producer and remains as one to this day under the brand Talkback Thames,
This site is intended as a tribute to Thames Television's broadcasting years between 1968 and 1992.

On this site you will be able to re-live those London weekdays in the golden age of ITV.
We look at the history of Thames Television, from its formation from ABCTV and Rediffusion Television in the late 1960s to the golden age as one of the lynchpins of the ITV network. |
We have a comprehensive array of presentation graphics, idents, stings, promotions, trailers, continuity, programme slides, programme titles, on both video and stills.
We'll also be leafing through Thames TV's programme catalogue to study the station's network and local programming from 1968 to the 1992.
So join us in our journey paying tribute to Thames Television!
